QUANTEC ProAudio has appointed Gotham Audio LLC as the exclusive distributor of the YARDSTICK series of digital reverberators in the United States and Canada. In 2008, Gotham Audio LLC will proudly introduce the latest inheritors of the legendary QUANTEC algorithm, the YARDSTICK series of standalone digital processors, to discerning North American audio professionals.

Quantec's Yardstick - distributed by Gotham Audio LLCThe YARDSTICK series incorporates all the top features of past QUANTEC reverb effects processors including the renowned QRS algorithm first introduced in 1982. The QUANTEC ROOM SIMULATOR has long been acclaimed for its outstandingly “natural” reverberation characteristics.

Wolf Buchleitner and the team at QUANTEC have refined the QRS concept over a 25 year period, maintaining its essential character, while taking advantage of the advantages offered by modern data processing technology. Size and price have been greatly reduced while multichannel capabilities and an enhanced digital signal path have been added

At audio conventions, even after a quarter-century, you will still hear engineers proclaim, “I love this sound!” Virtually all QUANTEC reverbs ever produced are still used today on a daily basis. The YARDSTICK concept, introduced in 1997, marries these extraordinary sonic qualities to a unique design package that can best described as minimalist in terms of size and front panel presentation. In a world of plug-ins, modeling and me-too designs, the YARDSTICK stands apart with a beauty and power all its own.

The Gotham Legacy

The addition of QUANTEC products honors the Gotham Audio legacy as a pioneer in the development and sale of digital reverberation products. Gotham Audio founder Stephen Temmer introduced the first commercially available digital audio product, the Delta T-101, at the 1971 AES Convention in Cologne. The product had been developed by a team of M.I.T. engineers, soon to operate under the new company name of LEXICON. Temmer saw an immediate application for their digital delay line as a pre-delay for the EMT plate reverberators that Gotham distributed. He commissioned LEXICON to produce 50 units for commercial use, badged with Gotham Audio on the front panel and LEXICON on the rear.

Gotham subsequently became involved with the very first digital reverbs, the legendary EMT 250 and 251 Electronic Reverberators, which had been co-developed by EMT and an American team lead by Dr. Barry Blesser. For many years the Gotham organization handled export of LEXICON products to Europe while importing EMT products into the US. The Swiss branch of Gotham Audio, later known as Gotham AG, became an honored distributor for LEXICON products, both professional and audiophile, in Central Europe.

EMT and LEXICON were soon joined by QUANTEC and AMS in the Pantheon of Legendary Digital Reverbs. The QUANTEC Room Simulator QRS,  introduced by German inventor/musician Wolfgang Schwarz in 1982 was an instant classic. For many years it was promoted in the US by the late Stephen St. Croix, himself a renowned designer of classic products such as the Marshall Time Modulator. The QRS was still being produced as late as 1995, thirteen years after its introduction. Its fame and reputation remain undiminished after 25 years.

Gotham Audio is proud to once again distribute historic
digital reverberation processors of extraordinary quality.
